It Mattered To This One

One day, a man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of starfish washed ashore after a storm. The tide was going out, and the sun was growing hotter. If the starfish didn’t return to the water, they would perish.

In the distance, the man noticed a boy who seemed to be dancing along the shore. As he got closer, he realized the boy wasn’t dancing—he was picking up starfish one by one and tossing them gently back into the ocean.

The man approached the boy and said, "What are you doing? There are thousands of starfish on this beach. You can’t possibly make a difference."

The boy paused, bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it into the water. Then he turned to the man and said, "It mattered to this one."

This simple story is often used to highlight the power of individual actions and the importance of making a difference where and when we can, even if it seems small in the face of overwhelming challenges.

This is the focus of our charitable contributions to vetted organizations working in Ukraine. We aim to make a difference when and where we can so that at least one person will be better off because of our actions.
